Well Lee and I watched this rather interesting debate between US-inians and other nationality-type people on profanity on youtube. On Andrew’s Wii.
The US people were all going: Profanities shouldn’t be rude and we should have the right to swear when and where we want to because it helps us in our self-expression.
And everyone else was like: Profanity is not normal language, it’s designed to have connotations that shocks and appalls you. Using profanities is a sign of disrespect – language and manners exist to demonstrate respect and convey connotations. In that sense, profanities should be used sparingly because many other words exist to describe the same messages as profanities might, without such crassness.
But then again, the US-iniansiaiansnsss (whatever) said that they should have the right to free speech (hitherto to swear freely) because of the US constitution.
That was about the time Lee and I turned off the TV.
