I DELIVERED TO BRIX STREET.
WHY ARE THEY COMPLAINING?
WHY?
I DELIVERED THERE!

I just ate a very chewy rollup.
It wasn't until
I'd finished the treat that
I'd realised
I'd eaten it with the paper still on it.
Okay now I'm fucking angry.
I read April 2007's edition of APC while in a dentist's reception, and let me tell you. I was absolutely outraged at the kind of sympathy Windows Vista recieved. The magazine suggested the kinds of 'Vista compatible' computers people should build if they wanted to run Vista. The magazine completely downplayed the fact that people should waste perfectly good computers by replacing them with new 'Vista compatible' ones.
In particular, the new features of Vista and it's structure were completely exaggerated: The 'stability' of the OS was due to the fact that video modules were separated from the kernel.
Oh. Oh very fucking smart. I wonder which OS gave them the idea to do that.
The magazine even bolstered the credibility of the desirability of the 'Windows Aero user experience'.
Its clear to any half-witted consumer that the only reason why Linux is even MENTIONED in the magazine is to use it for a foot-stool to praise Windows Vista.
The magazine took subtle shots at the diversity of open source software – ReiserFS's development was noted to have stagnated due to it's creator's conviction of murdering his wife – I MEAN THE WHOLE FREAKING ARTICLE MUST HAVE BEEN CONSTRUCTED TO HIGHLIGHT THAT PIECE OF INFORMATION.
Ubuntu was yet again given some kind of a tidbit (obviously) because of it's small commercial roots, but nothing substantial was even delved into.
Once again, complete suspicion of the Terminal was maintained in any 'hardcore' linux 'solutions': “with a little patience…” SHUT UP. SHUT. UP. TAKE THE TERMINAL ON LIKE A MAN.
Linux 3D desktop environments were even stated to be 'chasing' Windows Vista or something. What? Man Linux is *THE* 3D desktop OS.
I'm going to settle this once and for all. Hopefully.
Windows Vista is a product no consumer will ever own or own the source code to. You are given the right to give Microsoft money, and you are given the right to run the software.
Excerpt from Windows Vista “Home Basic” version EULA (no different from any other of the versions, Ultimate only spares you the right to install Vista on an external storage device…OoOOOooh):
INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. Before you use the software under a license, you must
assign that license to one device (physical hardware system). That device is the “licensed device.”
A hardware partition or blade is considered to be a separate device.
a. Licensed Device. You may install one copy of the software on the licensed device. You may
use the software on up to two processors on that device at one time. Except as provided in the
Storage and Network Use (Ultimate edition) sections below, you may not use the software on any
other device.
b. Number of Users. Except as provided in the Device Connections (all editions), Remote Access
Technologies (Home Basic and Home Premium editions) and Other Access Technologies
(Ultimate edition) sections below, only one user may use the software at a time.
b. Font Components. While the software is running, you may use its fonts to display and print
content. You may only
· embed fonts in content as permitted by the embedding restrictions in the fonts; and
· temporarily download them to a printer or other output device to print content.
c. Icons, images and sounds. While the software is running, you may use but not share its
icons, images, sounds, and media.
You will not be able to continue using the software after that time if you do not
activate it. If the device is connected to the Internet, the software may automatically connect to
Microsoft for activation. You can also activate the software manually by Internet or telephone. If
you do so, Internet and telephone service charges may apply. Some changes to your computer
components or the software may require you to reactivate the software. The software will
remind you to activate it until you do.
6. POTENTIALLY UNWANTED SOFTWARE. If turned on, Windows Defender will search your
computer for “spyware,” “adware” and other potentially unwanted software. If it finds potentially
unwanted software, the software will ask you if you want to ignore, disable (quarantine) or remove it.
Any potentially unwanted software rated “high” or “severe,” will automatically be removed after
scanning unless you change the default setting. Removing or disabling potentially unwanted
software may result in
· other software on your computer ceasing to work, or
· your breaching a license to use other software on your computer.
By using this software, it is possible that you will also remove or disable software that is not
potentially unwanted software.
I haven't even MENTIONED Window's Vista's DRM policies. I'd advise you to keep all these postulates in mind.
Linux. Is open source. You can do whatever you like with it, as long as you try not to profiteer off it. Full stop. Linux's GNU GPL (General Public License) created the kind of development anarchy Linux experiences – and is what gives Linux such a beautiful taste. There's all this suspicion about how hard Linux is to install and how difficult it is to set up, and it's ridiculous to think that consumers won't take the freaking time to realise that they're letting themselves be conned by Microsoft with it's arm twisted behind it's back my Hollywood sheerly because they won't take the responsibility to properly understand how the hell their computers work.
AND IT'S NOT HARD. UBUNTUFORUMS.ORG . ALL PROBLEMS SOLVED. EVERY SINGLE UBUNTU OR LINUX RELATED PROBLEM SOLVED. NO KIDDING.
Linux has always had a kernel. Linux's kernel makes it so incredibly stable it's not even funny. You can open up a thousand windows of the most memory hogging program and your computer WILL NOT crash.
There is a linux distrobution (meaning, a linux kernel with device drivers and software so you can run it easily on your computer) for every computing need. Business, desktop – whatever.
WINE is a linux initiative that allows you to run Windows programs on linux! AND NO THEY RUN PERFECTLY FINE. THERE IS NO 'LAG'.
Look, I am more than happy to talk to anyone about linux at any time, and I will take the time to even install and prepare a distrobution of linux for anyone as long as it gets the word out.
Say no to Microsoft and Windows Vista – realise that your computing experience requires YOU to have the power over the manipulation of your own computer, and that no-one should have the right to touch what you run on your computer.
I sign this,
Blair Hurley.
